Traffic Enforcement Unit
One of the more visible organizations of the Miami Police Department is the motorcycle patrol officer. Whether engaging in community policing, escorting a Very Important Person (V.I.P.) through the streets of Miami, leading a local parade, conducting
selective traffic enforcement, or presenting traffic safety lectures at local schools, these officers make up the center piece of the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

the Wrecker Detail, the Traffic Control Specialists, the School Crossing Guards, the Accident Review Board and the D.U.I. and Drug Recognition Experts Details.
The Traffic Enforcement Detail is composed of the Community Motorcycle patrol officers. These officers are responsible for community policing and traffic enforcement in their assigned neighborhoods. The motorcycle officers respond to traffic complaints
and perform selective enforcement to deal with community concerns. The motorcycle officers perform a variety of other functions, including escorts for dignitaries, traffic safety presentations in local schools and community associations and headlining local parades along
many other community details.
The Wrecker Detail is responsible for regulating five (5) contracted towing companies, over 27 private property towing companies, and four (4) licensed booting companies. They handle all complaints lodged against towing and booting companies along with making sure
all state, county, and local laws and regulations are followed.
The DUI and Drug Recognition Experts Details have made a major commitment to the reduction of traffic crashes resulting from impaired drivers. These officers are committed to enforcing laws relating to impaired driving throughout the city. This detail conducts D.U.I.
Checkpoints, operates a BAT Mobile (Breath Alcohol Testing mobile unit), and even assists other agencies with impaired driving enforcement.
School Crossing Guards ensure pedestrian safety for children to their respective schools within the City of Miami. The Traffic Control Specialists are assigned throughout the city to assist with traffic congestion by directing traffic during busy times of the day.
