The North District consists of three Neighborhood Areas in the City of Miami, Model City, Upper Eastside and Little Haiti,
and I am proud to announce some our accomplishments. My Commanders have worked cohesively together to reduce crime in all three Neighborhood areas.
Because of their collaborative efforts, our Neighborhood Resource and BEAT Officers are fulfilling the Community Policing Plan. We are building
strong relationships with the local businesses, churches and local Homeowner Associations to continue to combat crime to make these areas a safe
place to do business and live.
Many Community Policing Projects have taken place and continue to take place in all three Neighborhood areas:
• The North District Police Station continues to host “Farm Share” events throughout the community and with the help of volunteers, civic organizations,
City of Miami employees, Citizens on Patrol, and Police Explorers we have been able to assist with distributing food to over 1,000 citizens
in the surrounding areas.
• Model City Neighborhood has made a significant reduction in violent crimes where were the primary victims. The neighborhood area continues to push and
engage our citizens with community policing events such as Movie Night in the Square, Truck or Treat, Christmas on 15th Ave to name a few. The new area
is anticipating the opening of the New Liberty Square which is called Liberty City Rising. In 2018 we saw the opening of the Villages Phase I Apartments
in Liberty City by the Urban League; and now have in the final phase of opening in summer 2019, the Tacolcy Tuscany Cove, a brand-new senior community
located at 5900 NW 7th Avenue with Studio, one- and two-bedroom units. Offering the latest energy efficient appliances and resident services for seniors
62 and over.
• Upper Eastside Neighborhood is always striving to make the area a place where people love to work, live and play. From the restaurants, cafes and
shops opening daily on Biscayne Boulevard to the designer stores of the Miami Design District, Upper Eastside is quickly becoming the place for tourists
and residents to spend time. Community events at Legions Park, including free weekly yoga classes and farmer’s market, allow residents and visitors to
interact and maintain a true sense of community. Our Commander, Neighborhood Resource Officers, Beat Officers and Problem-Solving Team are continually
working to reduce and deter crime while maintaining open communication and relationships with businesses and residents.
• Little Haiti Neighborhood strives to make the area a safe place where residents, merchants and visitors can enjoy living, work, and visit. The
Little Haiti Cultural Arts center is a place where tourist frequent on Saturdays to engage in traditional Haitian culture. Little Haiti will continue
to work in unison with the community and meet regularly with our Homeowner Associations to reduce crime. Additionally, the Neighborhood Resource Officers
(NRO’s) and Beat Officers will also engage in some fun intervention activities to build better relationships with the community and to help us to get to
know our juveniles in the area.
We are proud to announce the following resources that are assigned directly to the district in our efforts to improve efficiency; PSANRO’s for each
neighborhood area, Crime Prevention Specialists, Victim Advocates, and each neighborhood has an assigned Heat Shield Officer to educate the community
on terrorism.
